From the reel: Card surcharges are gone

Every place an old card surcharge line can hide

Since 1 October 2026, surcharges on eftpos, Mastercard and Visa cards have ended. Old "card payments attract a surcharge" lines now look wrong to customers. Here's where to look.

Your website

  • Footer and payment page

The small print at the bottom of every page, and the checkout or "how to pay" page.

  • FAQs, terms and conditions

Search the whole site for "surcharge", "card fee" and "%".

  • Uploaded PDFs

Menus, price lists and booking forms saved as PDFs don't show up in a page search. Open each one.

Booking, ordering and paperwork

  • Booking and ordering systems

Confirmation emails, text messages and the checkout screen of your booking or ordering system.

  • Invoice and quote templates

Payment terms at the bottom of invoices and quotes, and your automatic payment reminders.

  • Email signature and contracts

Anywhere you've written how you like to be paid.

Online profiles and in store

  • Google Business Profile

The description, menu and old updates.

  • Facebook and Instagram

About section, bio, pinned posts and highlights.

  • The counter and the terminal

Printed signs and menus, and ask your payment provider to switch off any automatic surcharge on the terminal.

The ban covers eftpos, Mastercard and Visa cards. Ask your bank or payment provider what applies to any other cards you take. You still pay to take cards, so check your prices cover it.
